I received the official letter and registration packet from the Hershey region of the AACA.
We have been assigned two spaces that are next to each other. We will be in the Orange Field in Row OAD site 7 and 8. This will be on the parking lot in which the GIANT Sports Arena is located. The site should be a good location for us to help promote the NDC.
If your are planning to attend this years Hershey event please make an effort to stop by the site. We will have the club Banner and National Convention Banner up for all to know that we are attending this years event.
Right now I have contacted Les P while on his return driving trip back from this years convention.
We still need to coordinate as to what will be at the table along with any information that we need to get potential members. There also will be a sign-in sheet for any current member to let us know that they were at Hershey.
I am not sure if Les is planning on any Friday or Thursday meeting during the day.
If you know that you will be attending please see if you might spare sometime to sit at the site to help out with getting our information out to potential new members that stop at the site.
I will keep everyone posted as we get closer to Hershey. If you want to contact me I can be reached at Desoto1939@aol.com or cell phone 484-431-8157.
I will try to attach a map of the orange field so you know where we will be located.
There are two maps attached one shows all of the fields and the general location of the field. We are in the Orange field. The second map shows the location and row within the Orange field which is on the side that has the GIANT Center. ROW OAD site 7 and site 8.

Since we have had 20 visits for this posting but no one has even posted any reply I get the feeling that no one really cares.
The feeling that I get from no one even making a statement sends the message that so what and if the club does or does not try to get new members is of no importance to the club members.
There is a lot of effort that goes into applying for a single vendor spot but to get two sport next to each other is even harder.
We will see if there is any interest from the club members that might attend Hershey this fall and will note the ones that stop by and sign in at our site. If you have never been to Hershey then you are missing the biggest automobile swap meet on the east coast. There are approx. 8-9 thousand vendors and they are a total for 4 paved fields for antique car parts. Some of us call it MECCA. the old saying is if you can not find it at Hershey then you will not find it anywhere else.
Come on out just for the experience and please feel free to post some comments to support or not support the effort to get the club know to new potential members.

All I can say is any of you "Eastern" NDC members that couldn't make the westward trek (like me), Hershey may be only second to route 66.
I've been there twice before and there's nothing that comes close to it.
Only "car folks" attend this event and if they could see what great folks the NDC members are, they would clamor to join us.
For me, it's all about the people! The cars are what brings us together.
Let's get a bunch of us together to show them why they need to join the NDC!!

I've shared this post with the NDC groups over on Facebook to help get the word out.

thanks for helping to get the word out that we will be having a vendor site at Hershey this year.
Rich and Les.
Well we only have 16 days to go and then Hershey starts on Wednesday Oct 4th.
As of tonight 9/18/17 we have not had anyone from the club or any of the members that might be going to Hershey indicate that they would be willing to staff our NDC booth.
It is very sad to say that when I first posted the idea of having a vendor site to help promote the club there were some members that stated that we need to have a cover, chairs, food, water, membership applications and to have a signup sheet for members to volunteer their time to help at the site.
We that was all great ideas but as of tonight no one has stepped up to the plate to offer any help. So basically Les and I will put up the NDC banner and put out some literature and will be at the site but no on a fulltime basis. So with that being said if you come to the site OAD 7&8 we might be there or might not. Not even sure if there is going to be a club meeting. Seems to very little interest from the club members a lot of suggestions at first but no volunteers.

Hi Rich. I'm a new member to NDC as of July. I just worked out a day at the Hershey show. I'll definitely be by the NDC booth sometime on Friday. See you then. Duane
I've put this out on the Facebook pages.

Rich,
I feel your pain. First let me thank you for stepping up to do the work required to acquire the spaces at Hershey.... and to go there and run them. It is a lot of work. For some reason nowadays it seems to be harder than it used to be to get participation at events, especially help to run them. I can speak from experience. I coordinate the Carolina Chapter's participation at the Charlotte Auto Fair and we are pretty much in the same boat. Sometimes it's just that people don't know they are able to come until the last minute. This year our attendance will be better than average but only because the speedway is also featuring DeSoto inside one of it's display buildings and I made a lot of extra phone calls to promote it and got some additional members to come out... some for the first time ever and we have been doing this for around 22 years in all!
We meet at Charlotte twice a year, spring and fall, but our swap meet space is during the spring show only, on Thursday and Friday. A handful of members will stop by that space but usually only Phil Rast will run it. On Saturday and Sunday we meet as our car club to promote the NDC and the DeSoto marquee.
Don't let it get you down. Keep up the good work and possibly next year you will see more growth and participation offered for help. Again, a massive thank you for stepping up to promote the club and the marquee! I wish I could be there but not this year...
DeSotoly yours,

Hi Rich,
I think it's great that the club has those sites. Unfortunately; I can't make it this year. Hopefully, I'll be able to attend next year and also see you and Jackie in Branson.
Fred
Rich,
I was re-reading the original post where you proposed the idea for attending Hershey, and I think the last comment was by Bob Terpak, and he finished by saying that he'd help. You might reach out to him and see if he's still available.

Rich;
I talked to my Dad since he comes to Hershey, trying to recruit him to spend some time at the club's booth.
In the course of the conversation, he asked about the 3:00 Friday meeting that used to always happen, and I think it would be a good idea to create that event, so that people that are there know that if they come to the space at that time, they are definately going to meet people and the booth will be attended to then.
Can I tell the Facebook crowd about 3:00 on Friday? That may even be the best time to grab DeSoto people that aren't members and provide them with an application.

I have reached out to Les Pesavento because he is also coming in for Hershey and will be brining the club banner. I also asked him about a scheduled club meeting and for him to pick a day and time and asked him to post the information on the web page. Still waiting to hear back from him.
So in the meantime lets all try to meet at the club site OAD 7&8 on Friday October 6, 2017 at 3 PM for a quick club meeting and to take some pictures so we can post in the next newsletter.
