Does anybody know whether there were safety belts in a 1949 convertible? I would like to place 4 safety belts in my car, but do not really know what type of the correct time eara I need. And if there are any, where could I buy them? My 2 grandchildren (3 and 5years old) love to sit in the back, but without the belts it is not safe.
Love to hear from you

And have a very nice day. The smile on my face stays on when I think of my beautiful DeSoto that is standing in the garage at the moment.

Jan,

Generally speaking, seat belts were not offered as factory or dealer installed options until the mid-'50's, well after your '49 was sold. Ford's Lifeguard design ad campaign of 1956 forced GM and MoPar to at least offer optional seat belts https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lifeguard ... ile_safety).

Your best and quickest solution is contact some of these vendors found when searching "vintage seat belts" on Google:

https://www.retrobelt.com/

https://www.seatbeltplanet.com/?gclid=E ... gLakvD_BwE

http://www.seatbeltsplus.com/?gclid=EAI ... gJ7MPD_BwE

Good luck with your project. I've added seat belts to the front seat of my '55 but need to add them to the rear seat like you.

Mark

Recently joined the club . Assume by now you have installed your belts.  If not, let me know as I put them in my 50 and they are great.  Rick
