Hello All.
I want to reach the two lubricating wicks for the speedometer in my car. It makes noise that I believe some lube will help. The FSM says to lubricate the wicks that are located on the speedometer head every 10,000 miles. Is it necessary to remove the speedometer cluster to access them or can you reach up and push some oil on them from behind? Thanks
I am actually working on lubricating my cable and speedometer as well. The wick can be removed by laying under the dash and reaching up behind the cluster. Same with the cable. The speedometer itself would have to be removed and disassembled to lubricate the gears. I have read sewing machine oil is about the best for the wick and speedometer. For the cable, generally a speedometer cable lubricant with graphite is recommended. I have that on my to-buy list here soon as I start putting my dashboard back together.
