Seeking the name and color code for the red on the 1953 DeSoto Firedome hubcaps. Found color pallets for body colors but nothing on hubcaps.
Thank you for any information you can provide.
I may be wrong, but I don't believe paint codes for small items were ever documented, at least not in anything I have ever seen. In restoring my '56, we had to recreate the inner fender color (gray) and hood spring color (red) based on original parts as none of that was documented from the factory. In fact, the gray on the inner fenders seems to have fluctuated quite a bit compared to the main body colors - evidently they didn't care quite as much for parts that weren't generally displayed to the public.
You may have to either get a good photo of an original to take to the paint store or else see if you can get someone with a good original to match the paint for you with a paint from a common source, such as an Ace or Sherwin Williams.
I hope I am wrong and someone does have documentation on this, but I am afraid you may have to do as I suggested above...
Thank you for your response. I appreciate you insight. What you shared is what I expected based upon my research. At least one of my hubcaps has a decent amount of paint so I will use that as a source.
Peace.
