Sorry if I am being ignorant, but my mechanic just texted me that he is going to replace the rear brake line and maybe the front brake line from the master cylinder. He said he would use the brake lines that I have already purchased which are the same as shown on this ebay listing: ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brake-line-kit-Chrysler-DeSoto-1946-1947-1948-/383526477862?hash=item594bf5a026 ). He asked me to get four (4) "coupling/unions to join the lines together". Does anyone know what he is talking about? I think he is describing compression fittings (splice joiner fittings) but I am not certain that is what he needs, and I don't know the correct pipe O.D. (3/8", 1/4", etc.). Am I right to assume the unions should be brass? Does anyone know a (NAPA or Rock Auto or AutoZone) part number for what I should buy?
Hi,
As far as I know, brake unions are almost always brass. I am not too familiar with the '47's, but I know the '56's have several (not sure how many off the top of my head), including one like what is pictured below on the top of the rear axle. Your car may have the same. If nobody else chimes in here, you can try contacting Les Pesavento (at the top of the page, hover over "club resources" and then click "contacts" to find his info). @deanmullinax and @dandolan may be able to help as they have early '40's DeSotos that should be very similar or @timbowers as he has a '49.

@davidfrank Thanks david for both the suggestions (contact people) and the picture. If you found this picture on the website of some parts supply house, would you please tell me whose website, and the part number (or description) of what this thing is. My mechanic actually said "I need four coupling union' , and I interpreted that to mean four coupling unionS, because I didn't know there was such a thing on a DeSoto as a single union that connected four lines together. Now that I have seen this picture you have supplied, I am thinking this must be what he expects me to locate (because the brake line "kit" that I bought on ebay already has a lot of fittings, but not one that looks like this).
.I think I just found this on Andy Bernbaum's site... thanks to your photo, David !!
@samnicolosi I am glad that helped! I can't find the original link I got that photo from, but here are a few similar parts I found. You'll have to double check all the threads to see if they are correct for your application.
