Does anyone have a decent, reliable cable that they are willing to sell? I have the part number as 1617 997. Thanks!
Is yours leaking or broken/damaged?
David:
Well, that's a good question! The short answer is I don't know.
The long explanation is I had a complete transmission rebuild done last fall but the car still will not regularly shift from first to second. I did get it to operate as it should one time two weeks ago-and the car behaved perfectly!
The actual push buttons are pretty loose and the plastic material is cracked and falling out all over. My suspicion is either the control mechanism or the cable (or both) are the underlying cause. I have in transit a Push Button Control Unit and push buttons. The last piece of the puzzle is the cable and I want to have every potential part available to solve the problem. I have been at the transmission issue for ten months now and I would just like to be able to drive the car before the snow starts flying again in Buffalo, NY.
Thanks for checking in and congratulations to you and Christina on your recent marriage!
Bob
I am not sure if anyone makes new cables. You may try Andy Bernbaum or someone like that. If you call and they don't have one, maybe they can tell you who might. Otherwise, another used cable might be the best option, but you might have to seal the end as those cables are prone to leaking at the transmission end.
I found this thread that may be of some help as well: https://desoto.org/community/technical-articles/1956-powerflite-pushbutton-adjustment/
And thank you!
This eBay listing says it interchanges with 1617997, but at $300 you wouldn't want to guess. https://www.ebay.com/itm/325409390726
Same seller, same item, same price, says its for the '56 MoPar line: https://www.ebay.com/itm/325409378465
This Imperial site also shows cables available (scroll down): https://www.imperialservices.net/Cparts.html
Good luck! Please update this thread if you are successful finding the correct part.
MoPar Mall has new cables. Product code is BV-44576, cost is $282.90. I bought a new cable from them for my 1960; great quality, works great
