I took mine to my first cruise of the year in Independence, MO and had a blast. This cruise could have been named "The Cruise for the Orphans" as there were plenty of Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, Mercurys, Studebakers, and even an Edsel. And, oh yes, my DeSoto which garnered quite a bit of attention and compliments to my delight.
I look forward to many more this year all over Missouri and Kansas and will attend all I can weather permitting.

Hi Fred, it is still a little early to get our DeSotos out here in the frozen north (Michigan) so I envy you. Have you considered bringing your Desoto to the NDC convention in Kalamazoo, MI in July? If you haven't been to a convention they are a lot of fun with some interesting events. The best part is meeting and making friends with many other Desoto owners and getting to see all of those great DeSotos. Yes, our snow will be gone by then.

1949 De Soto Custom Convertible (project)
Still too much salt and chemicals on the road as well as snow here in Conn to be driving anywhere. Once we get the April showers to wash the roads clean and all the snow melted I can venture out.

Following two major snowstorms and the lingering salt residue, it was finally safe to lift the cover on the '55 and awaken it from several weeks of slumber. She started right up after several pumps of the accelerator and after a suitable warm up period I took her out for some exercise. Felt good to ride with the window open! Summer is on the way!!

Sorry about that - I was born, reared, and educated in Michigan (graduated from Michigan Tech in Houghton). Yeah, I know all about the nine months of winter and three months of rough sledin' up there. It's almost 80 here today! But down to the 40's by Tuesday.
Will consider the Nat's in Kalamazoo but we will be moving this summer to Branson, MO and the move might conflict. I just plan on doing all I can with the DeSoto here and I know I probably will be limited even at that. Lots of work to do to get out of Lee's Summit and down to Branson in a short period of time.

Fred, we live down in the southwest corner only 41 miles from Indiana along I-94 so our winters aren't as bad as way up north. We only get 8 months of winter. But seriously, our snow is almost gone but the roads are not entirely clear of salt and I don't want to get the old cars out yet.
We have been to Branson a few times and I have always thought it would be a great place for a NDC convention. I don't think we have NDC members in the area. At least not any that have showed interest in hosting a convention that I know of. I am not pressuring you to consider it but maybe just planting a seed in the back of your mind somewhere that may lead to something a couple of years down the road. Les

I finally pulled the old FireDome up out of the garage for the first time in ?? two?, Three?, Four years? I can't even remember. I found a mechanic over in Hughesville who agreed to tackle bleeding the brakes. Since I don't have the leg power to crawl around underneath it anymore, it has been difficult to even think about getting it out.
However ... the plan right now is to drive it over to Kalamazoo in July. I think the last road trip I made in the DeSoto was to Gettysburg. I may run it up to Carlisle as a test run. I will say more when I get it back here from Hughesville.
It is great to see you posting again Larry. Missed you at the last few conventions and hope you can make it to Kazoo.

1949 De Soto Custom Convertible (project)
As some of you may be familiar with promo models, you also know that the '59 models did not have an interior. Well guess what? I took my '59 Fireflite 4 door hardtop promo, painted it as close to the color of my real Firesweep as I could find paint for, and put an interior in it from a '57 Chrysler 300 kit. Turned out pretty well.

I'd be glad to oblige if you had the car and the interior kit. The car might be easier to find - just not sure there would be an adaptable interior for a '55 or '56 DeSoto or Chrysler in a 1:25 scale. These promos were really bare if my memory serves me right - no detailed undercarriage or interior but had clear plastic windows. The Fireflite 4 door sedans are all I recall the promos being available in both '55 and '56 model years.

In case you care.............I removed my '52 FireDome from its Winter cocoon, started it up, drove it outside, and gave it a bath, to remove the sleep from its eyes.
