Hello all! It's been a while since I've posted on here but I've been reading along for a while...

I may be in need of an auto hauler within the next 30 days. I will need to transport a DeSoto from northern PA to Greenville, SC. Never messed with these guys before so I was wondering if any of you might have a recommendation on a reliable company that is reasonably priced, if that exists... I prefer an enclosed trailer/carrier but might be open to an open one if necessary. They must be insured of course. Any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

Dean,

Several years ago my son shipped a '66 Chevelle from CA to KY. We used a now forgotten classic car shipping broker that bids the move to carriers with enclosed, specialty car transporters. The rate was very good and the vehicle arrived on time in an enclosed transporter. Unfortunately I cannot now locate that brokers name.

There are a lot of companies that specialize in this type of transport but I found their quoted costs quite high. Might be worth doing some web searching for a classic car shipping broker and check their online reviews.

When Barrett Taft moved from SC to WA he had one of his '59's moved on a multi-car open transport with disastrous results. The car was eventually repaired as new with insurance but suggest you stay away from open transport.

So what did you find in PA?

Mark

Hey Mark! Good to hear from you!

Yes, I remember what happened with Barrett's car... that was horrible! I have been doing a lot of online looking and reading of reviews. Read about some horrible experiences with delays, over pricing, damage, etc. Just trying to be very careful if you know what I mean. I do plan to use an enclosed carrier... open carriers have to many unknowns that can happen in transit.

Once you give your name to one "broker" about 10 -15 different haulers will email, call, and text you to death. You have to wade through all the promises, quotes and data they send you along with reviews. I have narrowed it down to a few companies but am still deciding. I found a car and have worked out a deal but am awaiting some pictures to confirm things. I am looking at a '48 DeSoto Custom Club Coupe that is owned by Tim Bowers' father, Don Bowers.

I am very excited about the car. Other than the '55 and '57 models, the S-11 models have always had a unique appeal to me. Not to mention my wife likes the way they look too! I just realized that even though I have had many DeSotos over the years, its been about 15 years since I have had a running, driving, presentable DeSoto! Go figure!

Dean
