Hi All -
I'm looking for the starter relay that was used on 54-55 Desotos and Chryslers. This is part no. 1440445. This is the one that mounts on the driver's side inner fender. If you have one, please reply here or email: ronbo97@comcast.net.
Thanks,
Ron
Ron,
There are at least a couple on eBay now:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-MoPar-14404 ... 00&vxp=mtr
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-MoPar-14404 ... 00&vxp=mtr
If the prices (or a reserve) scare you, know that these are pretty scarce items. They were not available in the aftermarket other that from Autolite, who supplied the relay to Chrysler. They were only available from MoPar or Autolite dealers; no other suppliers offered them. It is difficult to find one today for less than $100.00 in NOS condition.
Another option is to buy a used one from someone parting a Chrysler or DeSoto. The same relay was used on '51 - '55 Chrysler V8's and '52-'55 DeSoto V8's. Chances are the starter relay on a used car will still be good.
Another option is to have yours rebuilt. Last time I checked these guys do that but cost is near that of an NOS unit, roughly $150.00. I've not personally used this shop but others here may know about them:

Good luck!

Hi Mark -
I refuse to pay ridiculous prices just because something is perceived as 'rare'. I've always been able to find what I'm looking for and pay fair prices. It just takes a lot of looking.
I spoke to the acewichita guy. He will rebuild these, but doesn't have any in stock. Since I don't have one, that won't work for me.
A nice used one sold on ebay recently for around $70. That's a lot more reasonable than 200/500 for NOS.
Ron
Ron,
I've got a spare used relay. You pay shipping and its yours. I cannot guarantee that it works or is complete, but it should be a good candidate for the Ace rebuilder if you want to go that route. Let me know.

Mark -
I sent you an email (not a PM).
