I have a 1952 wagon in storage that I will not be able to finish in this lifetime. I started a frame-off rebuild several decades ago, but ran into health and financial problems. I have recovered financially, but will never be healthy enough to complete the project. I would consider selling or swapping the car + cash for a completed (or nearly completed) 1942-1955 classic or modified Mopar.
The car has no engine, transmission, or steering column, although it has a very nice steering wheel. The gauges were restored by Williamson Instruments, some chrome has been replated, many extra parts including an entire second dashboard, etc.
Please contact me at tonyurwin95@gmail.com if you have any interest.
Hi Tony....a few suggestions to help your cause. Set a price for someone wanting to purchase outright vs trade. State where you and the car are located. There are photos that show the car complete and others that show the car apart. What condition is the car in now? Make that clear in your ad. Finally, the NDC Facebook page gets quite a bit of traffic from members and non-members. Once you have defined a price, location, and current condition, suggest posting an ad there with as many photos as possible. Good luck!
Yeah, it's complicated. The car is completely disassembled. The chassis has been sandblasted and repainted, but needs gas and brake lines. Trim is off the body, but the body has not been repainted yet. Lots of great parts, like a NOS gas tank. I also have a rebuilt 318, a brand new A518 transmission, etc. Also available if a buyer was interested.
I thought the Club would be the likeliest place to find someone who would do right by the old girl. I'll hope for some interest here before I get serious about listing it on Hemmings or other websites.
@tonyurwin you can also join the NDC if you are not already a member and run a free classified ad (with a photo) in our printed magazine. That magazine goes to the mailboxes of over 1,000 DeSoto enthusiasts, so it's a great place to advertise anything DeSoto. I have not priced a Hemmings ad recently, but I would imagine they are comparable in price. Besides a better audience, you also would have the benefit of enjoying a year's worth of magazines and calendars that are included with a membership!
You can easily join at https://www.desoto.org/membership
Update: I just looked up out of curiosity what a Hemmings ad costs and what I found was $179.95! I may be biased, but I think $40 for an ad in the NDC is a much better value! Source: https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/bundles/carsforsale
Yes, I've been a club member for many years. I haven't received a magazine for awhile, so I mailed a check for $40 earlier today. I'll put an ad in the magazine, as well.
I will also throw in an extra bonus for an eventual buyer: A complete set of DeSoto Adventurer magazines from Edition #1. Two boxes full.
