Is there a way for users to upload photos to their own user gallery, and then link to those photos in their posts, rather than upload the same picture to several different posts?
I see my list of uploaded photos in User Control Panel / Manage Attachments, but how do I reference them when I am composing another post?
In the column of menu items at the left of your screen a "Photo Gallery" is offered, where you can upload images of your cars in the appropriate sub-category.
From there, you could copy/paste the URL of your image into subsequent posts.
I grabbed one of the photos in the gallery and copied the URL
http://desoto.org/gallery?g2_itemId=177
Does that accomplish what you're asking?
It's supposed to be fun!

You mean like this?
Go find the picture (with Firefox at least, I don't know about other browsers, I can do this in a different tab)
Right click on the picture and choose "View Image Info" then Ctrl-C to save that info
Go back to the post you are composing
Click "Img" in the editing bar and then Ctrl-V to copy the file info.
Or this?
Yeah. OK. This is just going to the picture, copying the info in the navigation bar and pasting it between the Img tags. Doesn't work that way.
And this:
http://desoto.org/gallery?g2_itemId=1971
is doing the same but just pasting directly into the post without using the Img tag.
Same thing, just navigating to my control panel and finding a picture I've uploaded.
No Img tags.
download/file.php?id=3368
with Img tags
Yup. Thanks Tim. that's great.

How do I upload to the gallery, once I've navigated to it? And how do I create my own gallery?
It seems most of these pictures are of finished cars. I'd like to post some "as it was when I got it" pictures, hopefully followed by "project progress" pictures. The Control Panel/Manage Attachments does serve as a private directory of my uploads, and I could start a thread describing my progress, but I was thinking more of something that anyone could see, but only I could upload/post to.
And other members could have their own 'public' photo galleries that anyone could look at (maybe even with a built-in link to a "comments" thread for viewers to post their ooh's and ahh's to. A separate comments thread for each gallery.) (and at the top of each of those Comments threads, a link back to the gallery it references.)
Hi guys,
I just joined the site and while looking around I came across this thread. I know I haven't introduced myself yet, but I thought this may help.
I frequent another site that seems to use a similar format (phpBB.)
The website has many of the features enabled that I think you're asking about. http://www.thesamba.com (this is the center of the aircooled Volkswagen universe)
One of the things I like best about it is the Gallery section. Pictures are uploaded to the site by individuals, available for everyone to see, and able to easily link to a discussion. You may also view a user's profile and see that person's gallery.
