Has anyone else experienced problems with opening or closing the cowl vent?
I think the root of my problem lies in the under-the-dash "control-lever assembly". I have the factory service manual, and also the body maintenance pamphlet, but neither seems to provide any pictures or instructions for servicing the mechanism. I have tried spraying everything with WD-40, but that didn't help. Suggestions, anyone?
If it's like the '56, it's just mechanical linkage controlled by a lever under the center of the dash. It's probably jammed, binding and needs lubricating, or seized. Likely you'll have to get under the dash to investigate and lubricate. If you still don't have any success, you could have two people try to work it - one outside at the cowl with a gently prying and one inside with the handle. If it appears to be frozen, Kroil is a good penetrating oil. Try to spray as much of the linkage as possible and give it several days to soak. Maybe re-spray it multiple times. Be careful it doesn't drip down on the carpet though.
Sam...no secrets to add though would like to receive an update to what the issue was and how you solved your problem. TIA
