Hello everyone,

I've owned a 1952 DeSoto Firedome/Custom V8 for the past few years. I'm currently working on restoring it and am trying to find the factory original paint. I found some information in the engine bay, but I haven't been able to match it with the paint or trim code.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Paint Code: 4209
Trim Code: DBI

I'd recommend contacting Glenn Colburn, NDC librarian (you can find his information on page 2 of the magazine). According to our list that is linked here https://desoto.org/library/ , the club library has two paint chip charts for the 1952 model year. That should give you some helpful information regarding the codes, as well as some samples to visually compare, and it's a free resource to you as a club member. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you are looking at a scan, the colors may not be accurate enough to use for scanning to mix paint from. You might need to either use an original sample on your car or obtain a physical copy of a paint chip chart yourself. Hope this helps!

Here is a link to an aftermarket paint color chart. The paint codes shown are Ditzler paint codes, not manufacturer codes. Looks like you either have Marine Green Poly or Dublin Green Poly.  Might want to find an area of the car not exposed to sunlight that shows the original color, perhaps under a sill molding or inside the door frame.

Thank you so much, David and Mark.
I appreciate your time—I’ll begin the research based on your suggestions.
