A Group from the Great Lakes Chapter met for our fall meeting at the Ypsilanti Orphan Car Show at Heritage Park in Ypsilanti Michigan. 12 DeSotos were present. Good cars, good food and good people!

We made our annual trek to Ypsi in our '52 to the Ypsilanti Orphan Car show and Great Lakes Chapter meet today. It is a 300 mile round trip for us and the De Soto made the trip with no problems. About 290 miles of that was cruising down I-94 at about 65 mph and the old De Soto didn't break a sweat or hiccup once. As Brent said in his post it was a great day with a nice pot luck lunch and good times with friends in the GLC.
I went to the Kent, CT antique engine show and was one of only a few antique cars there. The cut off date was 1932 so I had to park in another lot. My 39 was the only DeSoto for sure and one of only 3 other MoPars! Beautiful day and nice ride of about 100 miles. Car ran like a top, the electric overdrive is amazing, and I heard one person remark as I was leaving "geez you can't even hear it running" made me smile!

I started the motor for my 1956 DeSoto on Sunday for the first time since it went into a junkyard in the '60's!
The church I'm a member of had its trunk-or-treat yesterday evening, so I took my '48 Custom 4-dr sedan over. Instead of having my trunk open, we placed some Holloween decorations on the flat horizontal splash shield (deflector? whatever it's called) that's between the trunk and the rear bumper - I just wished I'd remembered to have taken a photo. And with the car being all black, it fit in well with the night's theme. Lots of people (mostly the adults) like it being there. Some of them would ask if the brake light in the center of the trunck lid was a third brake light - we'd have to tell them that it's the only brake light!
One thing about having the car out at night for the first time in a long time was that I found out that my passenger-side headlight shines up way too high - something else to go on the to do list.

P.S. David - great video of your engine running. I didn't recognize the guy with the glasses. I'm assuming that it was your dad being the gas man - and standing in front of the camera at times; lol.

55 Desoto: finished installing new wheel cylinders. when i tried to bleed the brakes, discovered fluid leaking from master cylinder into booster. Need to replace them. anybody have one that they want to sell?
Sunday 11/20/16 Perry rogers 57 Desoto and Rich Hartung 39 Desoto drove our cars to the open house that was held by the Pollack restoration shop that is located in Pottstown. We started at their sister shop Rags and Tops located in Perkasie and they also hosted an open house. There were approximately 30 other cars that participated in the 30 mile drive to the Pollack shop.
At Pollack they served a catered lunch for everyone and showcased the cars that are currently in their shop.

We did a local tour with our club and went to visit a gentleman that has an extensive collection of carriages, horse carts and a super collection of Rolls Royces. The tour through his carriage house and other building took about 2 hours and then the group went out to eat. There were two Desoto's on the Tour rich Hartung with his 39 and Perry rogers with his 57 Desoto. Will post some pictures

Today I put my Firesweep to bed for the winter till March anyway. I pumped up the tires to 45-50 psi to minimize flat spots, put Sta-Bil in the tank, cranked up the engine and ran it till fully warm, put the trans through the gears a few times, shut her down, connected the float charger, and gave her a good wipe down with detailer. If I didn't have to move it once in awhile I would put it up on jack stands but moving it occasionally helps to reduce flat spotting of the tires too.

I took delivery of my first DeSoto today. Its a 1956 Fireflite. About all I was able to do was get it in the garage.....just barely.
