Folks, I apologize in advance if I'm plowing old ground, but I'm puzzled why that $700 (now $500) 1946 Desoto in Manassas, VA that has been languishing on eBay for the past month. While it's not Barrett-Jackson material, I think that the pictures that accompany the post highlight its flaws in the interest of disclosure. There is definitely floor rust, a few soup bowl-sized dents, the trunk lid rust that's epidemic in '46-'48 Mopar products and the interior looks shot But it looks like it's complete, solid, and savable.
I should say here that, no, I don't have any connection to the seller, and, yes, I know that sandblasting, welding, and bodywork have gotten brutally expensive. but, frankly, I would buy it if I had the space and my few restoration $$$ were not going
into my 1951 Hudson.
These are just my thoughts, along with a feeling that it would be a shame if such a survivor got crushed.

WHAT '46 Desoto , in Manassas?...
It's a 4 dr sedan that's been listed on eBay since July and hasn't attracted any bids at progressively lower prices. It's a buy-it-now at $500 this week.

It is now off Ebay. I sent them a note about buying it but I would need a place to store it till I was released from the doctor from back surgery. Their response was they set the price low so it would be bought quickly. They do not have the space to keep it for a long period of time. I asked if there was any place nearby them that had long term storage and never did get an answer on it.
I have no idea what is happening to it now. I doubt he will relist it again. Sure wish he would though.
Yes, I think that someone may have bought it as a "Buy It Now" at $500.
There are several storage places nearby, plus he's just a couple miles from the sandblaster who blasted off my Hudson this fall,
But keep watching, Transactions do fall thru.
Hope it went to a good home!
PS
Nope, it is still looking for a good home. They have it listed in one of the states that start with an A. I know that sounds stupid but I didn't keep track of which state it was in and they have it at $700.
I inquired with them about a local storage place and they just said they take items in and move them out fast because they want the space.
I'm waiting on a second back surgery in less than two months. I asked them about that and I was willing to cover all expenses but it was a waste of time. I would gladly have gone after it and paid all fees.
You've certainly gotten a strange story from them. There are definitely storage places in Manassas, and it certainly seems like, if they are really anxious to move the car, they would try to help the buyer out by referring him to one of them. If you are interested in pursuing the car (which might be risky), I would talk to one of the tow companies in Manassas. There is a fairly big one that deals with classic cars, but I can't think of the name off-hand. Another place you could probably get a storage reference from is
ASCO American Stripping Company
Address: 9205 Vassau Ct, Manassas Park, VA 20111 (703) 368-9922
They gave me a good deal on blasting my Hudson and helped me find a tow company to flatbed it there and back. I'd ask for Jim.
but the story sounds strange, so be suspicious!

I found it listed on the Washington DC Craigslist site for $900!
Yeah, manassas is just about 36 miles SW out route 66
They have it listed again for $500. Same people. I would have picked it up by now if they could have worked with me. Oh well. Good luck
Make that $400.00 now
Might I suggest that someone post a link to the ad or ads or eBay auction where they are seeing this car? That would sure help others that may be interested.
