I contacted someone off an ad that had been posted in the classifieds. He is located near or in Kerrville, Texas and was selling a Suburban along with extra parts. Can anyone tell me if this car has been sold? I am not able to locate the phone number in any of my logs. Was planning a trip down there in a few weeks to see it.
I found the phone number and have plans to go down this coming weekend. Man I talked to said there are a lot of extra parts to go with it. Thanks for those that thought of this
Well, took that trip last Friday to Kerrville, Tx and saw the car. It had the roof rack along with the Five(surprised) supports for the wood strips still with the car. Of all the things that really surpised me was the swan neck drivers rear view mirror with the mirror still attached, even had the hood ornament. We know those are the first thing to disappear. All the windows are busted out but he had already located a back window replacement and had it in hand. There was no engine or tranny but he had a replacement that was running as late at last year before being pulled out for a street rod. No chrome missing but a few pieces had bullet holes in them along with the trunk(yep, had a replacement for that too). Even had that four inch piece that the mirror sits in on the passenger side. Chrome on the front is immaculate. Be good as a driver if not a show car. Brand new and I mean brand new radio. Pulled it out of the original box! NOS emblems and lights. He probably spent over four grand getting the extra pieces he is giving with the car so I know he is taking a loss with what he is selling it to me at.
This guy has a ranch covered in everything from frames for a 1909 to late muscle cars. Specializes in Model A and T rebuilds. I saw the front of two C cabs on frames to a Dodge Humpback that was cut down the middle to use in a field delivering hay to cows! He has about twelve buildings and semi trailers filled with so much stuff he can't remember what is in them.
With it being in Central Texas, it took me a half hour to get off his ranch. I counted over fifty deer and bucks as I stopped to watch.
I told him about the club and members may know others that are working on different models. He said to just send a letter with the parts the need and he may have them. Send out a price and wait for them to contact back. He even has clubs down and just walk his ranch for hours on end.
What is so good about this is that there is another ranching doing the same thing but he says he only has about a fourth of what Julius has!
He just does not have many Desotos to get parts from. Think I saw two.
I took a few photos and as soon as I figure out how to load them on my computer , I'll post them. They are a little distant but when I go after the Suburban I'll make sure to get a lot more and close up.
