Quality Restorations has an excellent reputation for doing...... quality restorations.

We have used D&D Automobilia in NC for our steering wheel restorations and are very happy with their work.

Hi Tim, I checked with D&D to recast my 1949 Desoto wheel and they gave me the same price as Quality Restorations. About $1000 for mine. Given the mid-west lower costs for a business I would have thought they could do much better.

Well, D&D is in NC, so they don't benefit from our midwest sensibilities, I guess.

I've never used Quality Restorations, but have never heard a bad thing. D&D has been doing great for me, so it sounds as though we have 2 quality vendors to choose from.

It's supposed to be fun!

Coincidentally, I'm sending my steering wheel off to D&D today!

They quoted a price of $1100. I've heard great things about their work from folks who know their stuff, including from Tim. So I'll be excited to get the steering wheel back to see how much better it will look. It will be like Christmas!

Rosy...that does not look like the wheel that was on your car. Is that an "extra" that you purchased for the sole purpose of having restored?

 Yes! I was surprised that the restorer didn't just send it back to me with a sympathy card attached. :P

You're right, Mark! My DeSoto still has its original steering wheel in situ; the bottom half is in perfect shape, and the top half has a leather wrap over the cracks and such. The center hub and chrome horn ring are also in really good shape, so it looks pretty good over all.

I got the steering column (in the photo) with the attached deluxe steering wheel, plus all of my power steering parts, and all of my power brakes parts for $100.00 from a super-great, fellow DeSoto owner from Tennessee! He is one good egg!

Is that one of those power steering in the column units from the early 1950's?

The steering column is from a 1957 DeSoto FireFlite, parts car.

The center hub (which is in good shape) is on its way to me as well.
