Hello There

Do any of you know the weight of the Six Cylinder's ?

This would be with-out the Starter and Generator,
but with the Intake/Exhaust Manifolds.

My S17, S-18 and S-19 Factory Service Manual has the V8
weight, but no Six Cylinder weight.

Not exactly what you are looking for, but the lightest Ace marine engine was 814 lbs and a crated M-37 engine was 742 lbs. Ballpark figures if that's what you need.

Have a nice day
Steve

Steve

It is a whole lot more than I knew when I asked
the weight. Wasn't the M-37 the Dodge 230?

Most M-37's had a 230 and some had the 251. The US versions all used the 230. I don't know the weight of the crate. I rebuilt the one in my M-37 and I can tell you it put a strain on the "2 ton" motor stand. Of course that's 2 Chinese tons.

Have a nice day
Steve

I've asked the same question about two years ago and as far as I remember the figure was around 750 lb.
I lifted the whole assembly from '50 DeSoto with manifolds, generator, starter, bell housing and fluid drive unit with a 1 ton folding crane from Harbor Freight.
Engine with manifolds removed and generator still attached has been sitting on a 1000 lb engine stand http://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb-capacity-engine-stand-32916.html for about a year now. This stand did felt kind of flimsy with engine attached so I left it for a week while engine was still attached to the crane.
Before I disconnected the crane I actually shook the engine on the stand - stand didn't broke but it had more movement than I'd anticipated. I put a 2x4 between oil pan and stand rail just to be safe and it's been sitting like that for about a year now. Occasionally, I do move it around the garage and with this extra support it feels OK, however, before I actually start working on the engine I am going to get a higher capacity stand - wish I've done it in the first place.

Hope this helps,
- Igor.
