Hej All,
New guy here. While I live in a nice area and I have a garage in which to secure my car when at home, I do visit some rather seedy neighborhoods often. I was planning to get a car alarm, but it's not as big an industry as it once was. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations. It appears as though my car once had an alarm as each door has 2 plunger switches. If you also recommend other security "enhancements" please let me know.
Given the fact that this is at least a 3 body trunk, I can probably fit a boot in there and pop it out when parking overnight while travelling, but that isn't practical for stopping for parking for a few hours to run errands.

We have a battery disconnect on our cars that we use at home, more to prevent a battery drain or electrical fire, but that could be a deterent. Also, a kill switch under the dash may help. Anther consideration might be to put some sort of gps tracking device on the car so that if it is stolen by chance, you can trace it. I think there are economical options out there available.
Thanks @davidFrank for the recommendation of the battery disconnect. That is on my list, but mostly so the battery doesn't die when I forget to drive for a few weeks.
So, I spoke to a local shop and they are going to install the whole shebang. It's Alarm with LTE connection, GPS, and android app. It supports power door locks if I ever decide to get those(likely), bump sensor, ignition/electric fuel pump shutoff.
I'm also having them install a small fuse box. I need something more modern to manage this power being used. I'm also going to tie into it for the radiator fans.
While I'm there, I'm getting 70 tint in the front and 30 in the back. I'm also getting a 4 channel bridgeable Bluetooth amplifier. It has a controller that I will mount invisibly on the front of the drivers seat or somewhere else invisible. Toss a speaker in the dash stock position, but it will let me expand to 2 more speakers if I ever find some reasonable chrome speaker covers for the package tray. I'm trying to keep it stock looking, I am not going all out on stereo. I'm also going to have him adjust my trunk popper as it's not working correctly.
I still may buy a boot. They are less than $100 and if we are travelling, nobody will mess with my car with one of those on it. Hopefully.

Well, I have my car back from having my alarm installed.
Specifically I got a Compustar alarm with a Drone Mobile (GPS/LTE) module added. I have an app on my phone where I can arm/disarm and pop my trunk. I get notifications every time the ignition is turned on or off and my electric fuel pump has power cut to it while the alarm is armed.
Picture of the Mobile app. I cropped out the GPS section as it was showing my home address.
One problem my alarm guy ran into is that our door locks are 'unique' in that they lock by going the other way. Has anyone added power locks to their '50's DeSoto? I'd like to add this as the key/lock is a bit annoying to use when I have one hand full.
I ran across some 1950's crystal cut dash light lenses that I'm going to have him install the LED inside of so I can keep a more original aesthetic.
I'm still looking for a boot to use when I'm staying places overnight. Anyone ever buy a boot off of amazon? My last one was a "re-keyed" one from a local P.D. Shhhh.
