It appears I have a little failue in the lower radiator hose on my 1956 Firedome.
Does anyone know a NAPA or O'Rielly part number for this hose or the best source for one?

Thanks

Mike DeLapp

Will this hose set for 1957 fit on Amazon.com? Not sure if it is a bargain.
Any opinions

I may have it
I got an O'Reilly hose #20046 and it appears to match up
I will post that it does in fact fit.

Mike,

20046 is a Gates part number. From the Gates website, that part is listed for the '52 - '56 DeSoto:
http://www.gates.com/part_locator/rever ... imeout=500

Bigger question is does anyone have a current aftermarket hose number for a custom curved upper hose for the '55-'56 DeSoto? Last one I bought was a Gates 20908, but that part number is no longer listed in their online catalog.

I have found that the best solution to replacing radiator hoses is to take the old one with you to a auto parts store and find one with the same diameter and bends. Most of the time you will have to trim one or both ends to make it work. (I have ended up with 2 hose from extremely long ones with correct bends) I have always been able to find a hose that will work.

Gates 20908 I remember is what I discovered for the upper with an AC equipped car when I replaced mine last in 2006 and posted it out to the board. I went to the Carquest warehouse and searched until I found a hose that matched at the time. I emailed Gates about a cross reference and they sent back Flex Hose - yuck! I tried Goodyear and they cross 20908 to 60879. There is a picture if you Google it. Not sure if it will work but it would be worth a start at the auto parts store.

Malcolm,

Thanks for the tip. Like a lot of things these days, you can buy that Goodyear hose on Amazon. Looks like it would fit with some minor mods.

I also checked with Gates and they list their best match as 22698 which Amazon also has a photo of. They were real helpful, the guy went into their stock and compared hoses. Looks like the Goodyear hose just longer. The critical thing that I ran into for an AC equipped car is getting a hose with the jog past the radiator under the twin belts, that is what the original Gates belt did well.
