I have a question about the 6 volt wiring system in my 1951 De Soto Carryall. I want to keep my wiring system 6 volt with the positive ground. The wiring in the dash looks to be in good shape although the gauges aren't hooked up. The wiring to the tail lights, gas sending unit, head lights and motor wiring looks like crap though. Would you suggest just replacing the damaged wire? I'd also like to replace any damaged wire with the correct cloth covered wire. What is the best source for this type of wire? Thanks
Jason, please go to the"vendors' off to your left as you read this. There are two companies there. I have dealt with RI wire and find them to be good but you need to be aware of what the Supplier (vendor - bad term) is going to provide at the ends; i,e boots with connector or without, solder-less connectors, or other fancy terminal connections. Make sure you know what you are getting there or you may be disappointed.
If you don't have money to burn, you can go to a company like Lee W. Pederson and buy original pattern wire to patch or replace what you have.
Good Luck
Steve
Hola Jason
I too approve of what Steve said about http://www.enginads.com/pedersen/ .
There are plug in connections for the sections of wiring. This means that you
can "unplug" the rear wiring ( the connection is on The driver's side in the rear section ) and re-place just that section. When completely finished with it
--- move to another section ( aka one bite at a time ).

Thank you for the info. I just want to address any potential wiring issues before I connect the battery and try to start the car. I don't need any fires starting. I'm going to try and locate a wiring diagram and just replaced the damaged wire. I will look tonight for the connector you're talking about. Thanks for the heads up.
Steve and Rodger, are you replacing full lengths of wire or do you need to splice? Splices really should be avoided unless done really well and that is another discussion.
