Just joined the DeSoto Club and thanks for having me! The story of my DeSoto dates back to 2015 when I first saw her sitting under a cover in a yard full of old cars. Took me about 6 years to buy it, but it finally happened. Not my first Forward Look car, but it's been a while with other cars and the time was right to get back on track lol. She needs some lovin', but hey I can't wait to get my hands dirty and get her back on the road. Thanks to everyone that's helped me thus far in collecting parts and information, and I'm super exited about getting started on this beautiful project of mine. BTW, the 1st photo was taken 6 years ago at the first encounter, while the rest were taken last month when I bought her

The exterior looks pretty good, but the driver's seat looks a little uncomfortable, LOL.
It’ll need some work for sure, but I’m ready to go all in. Should be a fun project, so I’m exited about it! Been looking for a 57-60 DeSoto Coupe for awhile, and I’m happy it ended up being this particular car that I’ve been chasing for a while ????

I really like the color (salmon?). I hope you keep it that way, but... it's your car, just have FUN with it!

@jimmegee Yes Sir, keeping the original combo Pearl White over Bimini Coral

That's good to know and glad to hear it! OK.... now that you mention it, I had forgot the name of that color. Bimini Coral rather than Salmon. ????
Jim
@jimmegee I think it would be a crime to change this beautiful color combo lol, we'll see how well it turns out getting years of oxidation off and some polish on it. Will keep it as an original survivor car for now (paint wise), but the interior is coming out and will be redone for sure. Mechanically I don't know its condition yet, but I'll find out when she comes home next month.

@berniemoen Nice, I'd like to see photos as you progress on it. I know that takes time and effort... but I'm sure others will enjoy seeing the progress as well.

That color and the light aqua color they had (I don't recall the official name off-hand) are my two favorites in '59. I like the black on my car, but those two colors take the cake!
@davidfrank I've always loved the pastel colors from the 50's, so I'm very pleased with this one for sure

Looks like a good solid body, with swivel seats to boot! I've to seen the full clear reverse lights before, just red with a clear lens. A good wash and wax ( I use the classic Turtle Wax) should really bring that paint around. Enjoy!

It's sporting '56 tail lights right now, but the correct ones from '59 have been acquired. Unfortunately still waiting to pick it up, as the seller is in no hurry to re-arrange his collection of cars so this one can get out of the yard. As long as I get it home before the snow flies I'll be satisfied, even though it's driving me bananas lol. Updates will follow!

Bringing the Dome home after 2 1/2 months of pain and agony. A beautiful day with an awesome reward. Tomorrow will be the first cleaning in about 10 years, before it’ll roll into my shop. Motor turns over easily as well, and all fluids look good. After replacing “everything” I’ll give it a go and see how it runs. First a thorough inspection and deep cleaning though. I’ll keep you all posted on the progress

@berniemoen awesome news! I'd be curious as to how well that paint would come back with some buffing and polishing. Sometimes it's amazing what's hidden under a layer of chalky paint on the surface.
@davidfrank Here are some before and after photos from today. Next up will be to get rid of 61 years of oxidation, which should bring back some of the original shine. There are a few areas that will need some touch up, especially behind the passenger side rear wheel (rust repair), but for the most part I should be a nice survivor quality paint on it.
