Does anyone have photos of the rear bumper extensions that were on some of the '57 and '58 DeSotos, both ON and OFF of the car?
I'm having a set of rear bumper extensions re-chromed, and the chrome guy said that a photo of the rear bumper extensions (before they were installed on a car) would be very helpful to him, as he has to rebuild the attachment tabs that were used to hold the extensions onto the car.
Each bumper extension has two metal "tabs" or "flaps" through which the bolts were fitted, but the "tabs" on the set I have are worn and rusted, so they need replacing.
He said that another photo of the bumper extensions already installed on a car, shot with a view from the underside of the car would also be very helpful to him.
Thanks to anyone who might have photos that they don't mind sharing!
Hi Rosemary- I have some pics taken when our 58 was being restored of the back and front of the rear bumper but I can't get them to load to the message board.
I have posted the pictures on Flickr. Here is a link- http://www.flickr.com/photos/etdesoto/
Hope that helps.- Kim
Thank you, Kim!
Those are great photos!
I have forwarded them to my chome guy.
Rosemary,
Who is your "chrome guy"? Let us know how everything turns out.
Mark
I'm giving "Paul's" in Pennsylvania (near Ed) a go at at few of the trim goodies that I've been collecting over the past year. I'd like the rear bumper extensions re-chromed, and the rear rock guards polished (they may need some anodizing?, etc.?), I think they are stainless.
BTW - thanks to Roger Anderson for his help with finding parts!
I hear Paul's do good work (went through Auto 502), albeit a tad pricey. I will show you these trim pieces when they return, Mark. Let's hope they sparkle!
Yup, you get what you pay for with chroming, and Paul's is expensive! Therefore, you'll get excellent workmanship and results...
Ed, may I have a loan?
