Club revved up for show

“It is only original once.”
Myron and Laurie Feniuk mention that the 1950 DeSoto, black in colour, sitting in their Okanagan Landing garage, has had its engine re-done, and work done on its wiring, lights, brakes and some engine painting.
But the classic car’s exterior is still in original condition.
“Only a polish job was done to it,” said Laurie, as the couple prepare to debut their car in the Vintage Car Club of Canada’s 22nd annual Father’s Day Car Show Sunday at the Village Green Centre.
The show runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We want to keep it in its original condition as long as possible,” said Laurie.”
Myron’s aunt and uncle bought the car in the early 1960s and drove it until 1980. It was stored in a cattle shed on a farm in Melfort, Sask. until 2005.
That’s when Myron’s relatives gave up the classic car.
“At the time, I replaced the distributor cap, put fresh gas in it, filled the tires and turned the key,” said Myron. “It started right up after sitting idle for 25 years.”
The Feniuks towed the car to Vernon where Myron did a few minor mechanical repairs to it, then drove it for the summer in 2007.
Over the last two years, the Feniuks have done more work to the car, whose original price tag was $2,325.
The DeSoto will be among about 150 classic vehicles on display in the north end parking lot of the Village Green Centre (near Sport Chek) for the annual show.
Admission to the show, hosted by the North Okanagan chapter of the VCCC, is by donation and there will be a representative from the Red Cross on hand to accept donations to help the people of Fort McMurray.
“The show is a wonderful way to spend the day with your family and friends,” said Laurie.
There will also be food vendors and music during the event.
