My 54 has a set of tail lights on the top of rear fenders very similar to the ones used on the 55 56 Chrysler imperial. I was told that these were a dealer option. Does anyone know anything about these? Thanks Bill :?:

Bill

It has been some time since 1954 and we are not always "up" on
what may have happened between then and now. What I am
saying is a prevous owner may have liked the 55-56 Imperial
Lights and had them installed on the rear fenders of the De Soto
that you now have.

We both can be insured that some one will let us know what
"the real story" is.

Bill,

I visit eBay regularly and have seen sets of vintage aftermarket Imperial-style, free-standing taillights up for sale. These were an aftermarket item designed to appeal to folks who liked the look of the Imperial's then unique taillights. Could a dealer have installed them; it's possible but the only way you could ever verify that is if you had the original invoice when they were installed. Without a photo, we can't determine if the lights on your car are an aftermarket item or if they are a real set of Imperial taillights added to your DeSoto. Post a photo of the taillights if you are able.

Mark
