Just in case any of you are watching the RM Auction coming up for the 1957 Adventurer convertible, you should know the car is a clone. It's absolutely gorgeous and highly modified, so I don't mean to take anything away from it, BUT RM is advertising it as "1 of 300 Adventurer convertibles", "original engine", etc. I've contacted them and blatantly accused them of fraud, but so far they have not changed the ad. Bid if you wish, but know what you're bidding on. http://www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.c ... ID=r129&...

Ed I do not have the money to bid on it, but it is a beautiful car. Just curious - what do you think it started life as? Just a regular Chrysler or lower end DeSoto?

Edward,
Looks like your "advise" to RM helped clear the air on this car. Good job...

The car was a Firedome convertible from a scrapyard. Al Day did a fantastic job of resurrecting the car from the scrap heap. As I said, I have no problems with the quality of the workmanship, but the advertising was an out-and-out lie.

Thanks, Tony, but when I check the site it still shows all the wrong information: http://www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.c ... r129&fc=0#

Yup, you're right, Ed. They're STILL trying to palm it off as a "1 of only 300 made Adventurer convertible"...

Here's another black '57 Adventurer convertible for sale on eBay. Damn...those '57 Adventurer convertibles are getting to be like belly buttons and '57 Chevys; everyone's got one!

I wonder how many '55/'56 hood noses I'd have to fix to be able to make the payments.....

It's supposed to be fun!

I'm trying to investigate the Ebay car. Seller has not responded with motor number. I know some of the history of the car, which concerns me a bit. Because seller says it HAS provenance doesn't mean it DOES. His pic of the cowl tag is different than the one I have on file for the car. Something is "up" with that...

Hi, Scott!

Welcome to the club and the forum.

You might want to introduce yourself by starting a new topic as everybody might not see you down at the bottom of the page of the (older) topic.

Changing over your car to a convertible might be considerably more challenging than simply keeping your eye out for a real one. Frame differences, wheelhouse, windshield header, etc. will all be difficult to procure.

Glad you're here!

Tim

I see they added the word "replica" to the auction description, and the car sold for $110,000.

Seems like a low result compared to the amount of work that went into the project.
