I lost the brakes on my DeSoto and underneath the car on the frame rail, behind or near the master cylinder there is a component with 2 or 3 wires going into it. This is where the brake fluid is leaking. Does anybody know if this is the brake booster.

I'm not with the car, it's at a shop about 10 miles away, they just called me.

Help! thanks!

Bill -

There is a hydraulic switch that operates the brake lights when the pedal is depressed. To verify that we are on the same page, have your mechanic hold a piece of metal, such as a screwdriver, across the leads that go into the component, as you call it. If the brake lights go on, then that is the switch. It should screw in. But if you don't have the correct special socket to remove it, then you can use a pair of large vice grips to remove. I believe this item can be ordered from Andy Bernbaum (oldmoparts.com).
