I received a call from new NDC member Donovan Roberts from Ontario, Canada. He recently purchased a really sharp '55 Fireflite hardtop (photo attached). According to Donovan, he took the car to a shop to have the car safety inspected for registration purposes and the concepts of a tapered axle shaft and LH lug bolt threads were unknown to the clowns working on his car. They warped the drum trying to remove it and stripped the threads in the hub.

My parts book says the front and rear drums are the same item, with the front and rear hubs being different. The hubs are riveted to the drums, so theoretically a used front or rear drum will work. Please let me know if you have a spare drum and rear hub for a '55 non-wagon. I'll be passing any leads to Mr. Roberts.

Mark

My source for a possible drum would be Tim Stanghor down in Whitewater, KS.

316-210-2002 Probably will have to leave a message.

I don't think he has a '55 DeSoto, but I seem to remember that he has a '55 Chrysler.

It's supposed to be fun!

Update: I suggested to the member in need that he contact French Lake Auto Parts based on this post from a while ago: http://desoto.org/phpbbforum/viewto ... rench+lake

I received this response today:
Hi Mark,

I have contacted French Lake and they tell me that they have what I am looking for. They are going to remove the parts and ship them to me.

Once again thanks for all your help.

Donovan

French Lake acquired no less than four 55 Desotos in the last year. It's a good idea to have them measure the inside diameter to verify that they haven't been turned past .060. Also have them check that the drum isn't out of round.
