Hello everyone. I am a new member to the National Desoto Club and hope to be a new Desoto owner this spring as soon as the current owner gets back home from his winter haven in Arizona. (He's a smart man) The anticipation is absolute torture with each snowflake that falls. Is it ever going to end? My heart (and wallet) are solidly attached to a stunning 55 Fireflite 2DR Sportsman. This will be my first dip into owning and driving a collector car. Can't wait for the ride.
My parents had this same model when I was 5 years old. I got my first stitches riding in that car. My mother and I were on our way to the grocery store when a dog ran in front of the car. I, of course, was standing in the front seat so I could see everything. The car stopped in time. I didn't - until my chin hit the dashboard. 5 stitches later, I was the envy of the entire kindergarten class.
I have been reading the message board for sometime now. I'm impressed with the enthusiasm and excitement shared with each posting. Please don't change anything because I know I'll be asking lots of questions and asking for helpful advise as I travel along on this journey. I look forward to being a part of the Desoto family. C'mon Springtime!
Hi Tom, welcome to the NDC, the forum and the wonderful world of Desoto. The 55 is a very good model year and you should enjoy it. Mark Kubancik is the '55 year coordinator and I am sure he will jump in with a welcome and an offer to give you any info or help with your car. Your profile doesn't say where you are located but from your post I think we can assume somewhere up North. If you can make it to the NDC convention in Ft. Wayne, IN in July we would like to see your '55 there and I think you will enjoy meeting fellow Desoto owners. Les
Welcome Tom ! 1955 Desoto is a beautiful car and my personal favorite.
Do you have any photos of the car that you can post here so we can share your excitement ?
Ron
Welcome, Tom!
It's supposed to be fun!

Welcome, Tom! Can't wait to see the pic's of your grand '55! It was a great year for DeSotos with that wonderful toothy grille. Great choice!
I too, just joined the "old car owners club" a couple of years ago, when after decades of wishing I owned an old car, I finally got the chance to obtain a "nifty-fifties" Desoto of my own. So I understand your excitement!
Hope to meet you and your great Desoto soon! Try to make it to the NDC Convention this year if you're able!
Tom,
Let me add my welcome to the others! As Les indicated, I'm the '55 model year coodinator. Despite the title, don't ask me any hard questions. In my case, the title simply means I'm hopelessy OCD about one single model year.
Like the others, I'm curious about where you live and whose car you have your eyes (and wallet) on. Please share some additional info when you have the opportunity!!
Mark
Thanks for the welcome everyone. I hope the attachment makes it. The current owners are both NDC members. We've talked over the phone on several occasions, but I feel like I've made life long friends already. I'm fascinated with his knowledge and even more so with their care for this prize. I am just as excited to meet them as I am about a beautiful 55. I am somewhat reluctant to print their names at this time as they are away from home and I'd rather not tip off any bad guys who might want to take advantage of the opportunity. I'm guessing that someone will recognize the pictured Desoto and immediately know the owners.
I'm a lifelong Kansas Citian. (Spell check says that's not a word). Go Royals! One of our best kept secrets is the new Kansas City Auto Museum opening at a temporary location in March of this year. If you're tired of staring at that snow shovel, google it. I think you'll be impressed. Hope to become part of that volunteer group as well.
Just counting down the days!

We see that you are not that far from Fort Wayne. This means that we
hope to see ya in July there.

Very nice. In fact, I may have seen this one up close at the recent convention in Lake Elmo.

Tom,
I'm jealous! They don't appear to come any nicer than that one! Keep the current owners happy. Speaking of snow shovels, why not shovel their drive while they are away so you can take the '55 for a test drive when they return?
Mark
I knew people would recognize this beauty. Does anyone have any knowledge on this specific car they'd like to share? Just trying to acquire as much as I can before spring gets here. Sitting in the Nashville airport on a Sunday trying to get to Bristol TN by nightfall. No snow on ground here.
