I am wary of dissecting the doors on my 1960 Adventurer because I don't want to damage the mostly intact 3D interior panels. My much older DeSoto has window hardware that is held in place with a pin through a square shaft. My newer cars have a clip that is slid off a knurled shaft. Before I experiment and crack some fragile trim, what hardware will hold the knob on a 1960? What type fasteners hold the trim panels to the door?
Thank you again,
Justin
The door handle is held in place with a spring clip. The factory shop manual will have an illustration of what it looks like. There is a special tool, KD-435, for removing this clip. The tool was used on door handles and window regulators from 1955 to 1961 or maybe later. Maybe someone will post a scan if you don't have the FSM.
Folks have also used small screwdrivers or custom made tools for removing this clip. The tool works best, though.

If you search the archives, this was asked a while back and I posted a picture of the proper tool and a modified butter knife. I looked a little, but working from the IPhone gets frustrating.

Yes,that's the tool.
If anyone is interested in purchasing this tool, I have a spare one. Please email me at: ronbo97@comcast.net
