My 50 Custom does not have a radio and the neighborhood cats are weighing in (not favorably) on my singing abilities. Does anyone know of a 6 volt audio system that they would recommend?
Hola Tim
The marketing Trim level of your De Soto is not related to which Radio
Option was offered in the 1949 and 1950 Dodges - De Soto's or
Chrysler's. Upper-end Plymouth's may also have a radio.
They offered two levels of Radios. The most purchased was the six tube
Model 603/ 5's and the lesser was the eight tube Model 803/ 5's.

Note: Left Hand Drive is a different Model Radio from a Right Hand Drive.

You may pay a very low price for the not functioning to good of a radio,
but when you factor in a Electrical Shops Parts - Electrical Technician Rates
and maybe some shipping - you are now paying over an average price
of $300 +.
The related part was a extended Antenna Length of 60 inches and a 90
inch version. Both versions plug into either radio. The Factory Installed
Antenna is on The Driver's side.

I have a line on an original, non-working radio. My fear is that cruisin along to Rush Limbaugh, Tradio, and Sports radio on AM may not fit the bill. Are there other 6volt radios that would have FM? Satellite would be wonderful.
Hola Yo'll
When one compares yester-years Antenna's Ability vs todays Antennas
AM Ability --- the 60 inch looong yester-year design has a plus.
The same is for The Receiving Part of the yester-year Receivers vs what
is used in many of today's vehicle radio's.
As a total package The Electric AM Receiver Spec's are better than today's
versions because they know that folks don't listen to AM Stations as before.
Now it is FM - Satellite and etc.
--------------------------------------------------------
Now move to what is avialible on Local AM Stations ( dis-counting the selections
that you mentioned ). At this time of day and in this room I can receive three
AM Stations that have music ( 1530 is OK with me ). Even though I have
two ears --- I can only listen to one radio station at a time.
I do know that when on Inter-state 25, I can receive 1530 from about half the distance between
Trinidad - Walsenburg Area to South Denver in the newer car's ( that have auto seek/ tuning ).
The next time that I am in our newer car that has A/C - Cruise and all I will
count the stations that play music ( from our drive way slowly using + ...+
...+ ...+ tuning ). The same will be done using the radio in our S-11 using slow
Turn-The-Knob turning.
Listening to Metallica, Archie Bell, Lynyrd Skynyard or Kiss does not seem right
in a S-14 ... to me.

I did this with my 55 Desoto
bought a 12V jump start + jambox Bluetooth speaker + smartphone
just go to tune-in-radio
listen to free music/ talk/whatever
charge and recharge using the portable jump start
to heck with the old am radios, just keep the one in the dash looking good
cheers, tom
