Hey folks,

It took me a while to figure out that the heating components in the car are options, I say this because I cannot find any part numbers in the parts book.

So, what were the heater options for this car. I can tell you it had two knobs one for defrost and one for heat, and two slides between the knobs.

I do have a heater valve, it needs to be replaced as it had a copper tube that I unintentionally broke removing my dash. So, I think this was some kind of thermostat or something similar.

I am having a heck of a time finding the valve and the heater box anywhere.

Thanks,

Darin

I can't answer your questions. Someone will be able to decode your tag. May I suggest you post your location then someone near you may be able to help.

Have a nice day
Steve

Darin,

If you have not already done so, suggest you join the National DeSoto Club in addition to posting on the web. The Club's magazine usually features at least one technical article that may be useful in your restoration project.

Another source of information are the Club's model year technical advisors. From the left hand menu, select "Resources", scroll down and you will find contact info for the 1950 model year coordinator. I would also recommend contacting the 1951 model year coordinator, Wayne Lesjak, as he writes some very good technical articles for the Club's magazine.

Good luck and welcome to this forum!

Mark

Three heater options were offered from the factory on the 1950 models: models 500, 300 & 100. If you are using a Chrysler parts book for models prior to 1955, these heaters have exploded views and part numbers for the parts in section 1 which is the parts for accessories section.

Does your body tag have any words or abbreviations stamped in it above the numbers you have listed? Mac

Hear is what I have from the plate, I remove it so that I could see it better.

First row with imprint above the numbers
Model 142
Body 2
Paint 301
Trim 935
AN 2

Second row with imprint under the numbers
HR 7
SCHEO 076
Item No. 3184

then the Body number
6039

I appreciate all the help.

Darin

Model 142 = Custom
Body 2 = Club Coupe
Paint 301 = Black
Trim 935 = Gray Broadcloth
AN 2 = ?
HR 7 = Heater code should be 1,2 or 3.
SCHED 076 = Build on the 76th day of production of the 1950
models?

Since your car is a Custom model, it should have a Fluid Drive transmission as standard equipment thud no code under the TR.

Mac
