As the 1955 Model Year Coordinator, I received the following e-mail from an NDC member. If you know what size tap is required for this job, please advise. Once we know the size, is such a tap easy to find from a good tool supplier?
"Hi, I am wondering if you have or know where I can locate a tap to redo the threads in one wheel hub of my 55 desoto driver side? These bolts/threads are probably the same for earlier years' cars and I do not know where to start looking."
Mark
Mark, the tap size is 1/2-20. 1/2" Dia 20 threads per inch. I have one and use it to make the drum puller I sell. Surprisingly, being left hand thread, they aren't that hard to find. I googled MSC Industrial supply and they have them for about $19. I didn't pay that much for mine but that was about 12 years ago. Any local industrial supply (Fastenal etc.) could probably order one.

Bill, he needs a tap not a die. 1955 and older has a threaded hole in the drum and 1956 and newer has a stud on the drum. ENCO has 1/2-20 left hand taps for $11.
Les,
Thanks for the quick and detailed response. I found the Enco website and will direct the member in need to go there.

Here is the response from the member making the original inquiry:
Mark: Thank you very much and also to the members that responded to you. I ordered the tap from Enco and now look forward to delivery.
Roger
Real nice job Mark. You are a true ambassador of the club. It was a real good idea to post this inquiry.
