Kids are older now & it was time to start another old car project. We have had 11 antique cars come in & out of our lives but this is our 1st Desoto. We bought a 56' Firedome that is in wonderful original condition. I look forward to conversing with the group as we begin another great Mopar journey.

Welcome Ben & Steve,

Congratulations on your new purchases. There is a lot of help here if needed. Ben's 56 Firedome has a pretty unique color combination of Sunny Yellow and Pearl Gray which should be paint code 407. Both the 39 and 56 appear to be rare classics.

Congratulations, Ben. It looks like you got a very nice DeSoto at a fair price. Take it out and drive it often and find out how much fun you've been missing.

I love the yellow/Grey combo...sets the car apart.

As of yesterday this family grew again with my first Desoto. Don't cringe but I've been a FORD person most of my life so this is going to be a learning journey. I sure like the yellow and grey but unfortunately mine is the "Oh So Common" pink and white.

Ben,

Saw that '56 on eBay and was impressed with it's very good original condition and also noted the original and unique color combo. Where do you call home? Will we be seeing the car at a future NDC Convention??

As you probably know, the wheel covers showing in the photo are not the original '56 DeSoto wheel covers. Originals show up pretty regularly on eBay so you should be able to find a nice set if you search often.

Good luck with your beautiful DeSoto!

Mark

I am lining up bids to have the Desoto shipped from Idaho to Texas. I would appreciate any input with shippers that members have used that they were pleased with the results & the price. Thanks in advance!

Ben,

My son just purchased a resto-rod '66 Chevelle from a vendor friend near Los Angeles. I began to get quotes to ship enclosed from LA to Louisville, KY, with some as high as $2,200. The car seller knew a guy in LA that flips cars and regularly uses a shipping broker. He works out of his his home in FL and brokers your haul with car shippers who are reputable and insured. For my son's haul, he started the bidding at $1,200 for the enclosed haul from LA to Louisville. He charges $100 for his fee and will increase the offer price in $50 increments if nobody bites at the opening offer. In our case, the $1,200 was accepted within hours and the car was loaded in LA within a week. When it appeared in Louisville, my son was there to meet it at his business. He said it was a very nice enclosed transport with a few other specialty vehicles. He was happy with the rate and service and I was impressed with the broker since I made the initial contact. Here is his name and number: Greg at Horizon Auto Transport 407-401-9773.

Good luck whatever you choose!

Mark K.

Very nice car, Steven! The hub caps appear once in a while on Ebay.
Mine is a survivor car....all original, including the peeling paint:)
The interior is also original and while it does not look as nice as yours I hesitate to redo it as its only original once.
Here is a side view...it even has the original dealers decal on the trunk. I dont know of any other 2 door sedans, but Im sure there must be some somewhere
