I noticed that the front brake and fuel lines on my Desoto have been replaced at some time with copper tubing. Does anyone know if this will cause any problems? Not sure if I should replace them or leave them alone. There doesn't appear to be any leaking.

I am also going to have to have the brake booster rebuilt. Theres a company in Winchester VA, Whitepost Restorations, that specialize in rebuilding these and gives a good warranty. Has anyone used them in the past or know a reliable company that can rebuild the brake booster?

Thanks,
Kenny

Ken,

Regarding the brake booster rebuild, check the "Vendors" link to the left of this site. In there you will find a link to a power brake rebuilder. Some here may have experience with this vendor or others to recommend. White Post does fine work as far as I know but brake boosters are not their "day job".

Good luck!

Mark

Brake lines should never be replaced with copper tubing.

Have a nice day

Steve, I have not thought about replacing steel brake lines with copper ones. But why do you say never to use copper? I have a couple of possibilities - pressure rating not as high as steel and galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals. Are there others or are these the reasons not to use copper?
Also, I am not sure how copper is in winter climates using salts on the roads. I never used copper when I was back in CT (I am in AZ now). I do know that copper and brass are very good in the alkaline soil here in AZ. Not sure how good copper holds up in acidic CT soil.

Thanks Steve. Am I going to do damage to the system if I leave the copper lines on there? I will replace but trying to do this rebuild a little at a time since the family seems to enjoy eating everyday.

Copper brake lines may burst under pressure.

Have a nice day
