When I bought my 1960 DeSoto last October, it came with just one key. That key would start the car but it didn’t work the locks or open the trunk or the glove box.
On E-Bay there was a set of matching keys and locks for sale and the price was right. The owners’ manual described how to make the switch. But before I started that job I found a leather bound set of keys under the drivers seat.
They were the old style key fob with aluminum keys. The best part was being able to work all the locks, including the trunk.
I thought all that I would find in the trunk was the usual, a spare tire, a jack, some spare parts, and maybe a few old newspapers. Upon further inspection, there was an envelope, tucked down along the side, stuffed with money!
The car used to be owned by a farmer and they were notorious for hiding money instead of using the banks. The car sat in a barn for thirty years before being sold at auction. The original owner has long since passed away. We counted it several times and the total was $40,120.12!!!!!! That number, 4012012, has a nice ring to it.
What do you think about that?
So you got the car for free, plus a gift. That's a good one
Wow; that's amazing!
Congratulations, Thomas!
Tom: Shouldn't your post have been on 04/01/12?
So Thomas - is it absolutely amazing or an early April fool's joke? You can never tell what someone would do with money after living through the Great Depression.
Since you bought that car from my Dad........
It's supposed to be fun!

I think the dollar amount is the giveaway...4012012! Coincidentally, that is today's date, April 1, 2012! I had to sleep on it to figure it out.
Good one Tom
Ah...an early April Fools joke! Not fair!
Good one, Tom!
And I was going to ask for a loan...
The best I have to offer is my wife came in this morning and told me the right rear tire of the 56 DeSoto was dead flat in the garage. I had never had a leak. She accompanied me to the garage as I was contemplating getting the jack out moving the adjacent car, etc when she announced, "April Fools".. Glad she is an collector car enthusiast.
Tom is going to buy drinks for EVERYONE that attends the convention. How thoughtful!
