The government has released ghostly images of a British cargo vessel trapped under the Arctic ice for more than 50 years.
Canadian archaeologists have found the well-preserved1955 DeSoto attached to the upper deck, the Hudson Bay Star reports.
The remains of the container ship were found off the shores of Yellow Knife on the Great Slave Lake.
"The ship is standing upright in very good condition," says Bernier Marc, Canada's head of underwater archeology. He said the ship is standing in about 30 feet of water.
Environment Minister Jim Prontice, who sailed over the site Tuesday, called the discovery "incredible," the Star reports.
"You're actually able to peer down into the water and see not only the outline of the ship but actually the individual cargo on deck," he says.
