Several years ago, when I bought my 59 Firesweep from an individual in Illinois, on the trunk was a dealer chrome sign that reads:
BROWN
DeSoto - Plymouth
Macomb (IL)
I'm Trying to establish the car's history, and would appreciate any information on this dealer and would especially like to get a picture of the building.
Many thanks!
Stan,
Click the "Dealers" link to the left. It will pull up a PDF file with all known dealers listed by state then by city. Brown Motor Sales is on the list with a full address in Macomb. I would recommend using Google and other search engines using the name and address and see what pulls. Another recommendation is to find the local public libraries for the Macomb area online and see if they have any photo archives online. Many such archives contain photos of local businesses including car dealers. Good luck!
Mark
Another method of searching for information today is to put an ad in the local Craigslist (Peoria Il) Historical societies and even check to see if there is a local car club are also effective methods.
Looks like the building is still there
605 W JACKSON macomb il
it is a discount furniture store now.
Thank you Mark and Lee for your excellent search suggestions.
So far I have contacted Craig's List and the library at Macomb.
I await and will share their responses as received.
Thanks again!
