Does anyone know where to get the gasket that goes between the glass fuel filter bowl and the metal housing? The car specifically is a 1956 Fireflite, but I'm sure there is a broader application.

Take either The Ole Gasket or your Glass Bowel to either a local NAPA
Auto Parts Store - A Tractor Parts Store ( John Deere or the one that
may be near you ) or a Lawn Mower Repair place.
When I looked for mine the lowest costing one was the one which had
my name on it.
They also have a new porous filter there.

David,
Aftermarket replacement filter elements typically have replacement gaskets in the box, similar to the canister style oil filter elements on your car. You didn't say if your filter is an in-line filter or on the bottom of the fuel pump. If it is an in-line filter, this may work:

I have never tried it but why wouldn't a neoprene "o" ring work?
Les, I am not sure if that idea would work or not. The filter seals the outside where the bowl is and the inside where the stone filter is, leaving an opening in between for the gas to flow, similar to how a head gasket is designed if that makes sense. Fortunately we found out that there is an in-line style fuel filter that is available through NAPA. It comes with two gaskets, one of which is the size and style we need. The filter and two gaskets are NAPA fuel filter #3943. The entire set was $7.70 with tax. We don't need the filter or other gasket, but it's a pretty good deal for a brand new gasket!
Mark, that looks like the style we need, but as I mentioned, we found one through a NAPA fuel filter set. The fuel filter that we have on our cars is the original stone-in-glass-bowl type that is attached to the front of the carb.
