Hi Everyone,
There's an auction on June 7th in Enid, OK with over 200 pre war cars different makes and models. There will be 2 DESOTO's: 1940 Desoto 4dr Suicide, 1959 Desoto Fireflite 4dr Sedan,
Jason
Thanks Jason! Below are some details from the auction site and a couple photos of the '59. Most of the cars will be a challenge to restore and will likely be parts cars or street rod candidates. If you have the time, read the auction details and peruse the photo and video links.
How many of these crazy old coots have we known about over the years that are "saving" cars for the days that never come. Then, their heirs must deal with the collection via auction or, sadly, sale to a scrapper.
VanDerBrink Auctions is pleased to bring you the Oliver Jordan Collection. This amazing collection of vehicles from the 1917 to 1930’s & 40’s and some 1950’s. This collection has an amazing assortment of vehicles for Rod-Restore along with hundreds of collector parts! IF you are building a Street Rod, Rat Rod, or looking to restore a unique RARE car, you won’t want to miss this auction. There is something for everyone from a RARE 1937 ALUMINUM Lincoln 7 passenger sedan believed to be Willoughby Body, 1917 Maxwell, to his personal 1937 Supercharged 812 Cord, VERY RARE 1924 ROLLINS TOURING, and more! June 7th, 2014 at 9:30 the bidding begins. Plan now to attend this auction! It’s amazing! BE ON TIME! BETTER SELLS FIRST!
This is an unbelievable collection. How does someone go about collecting all of these cars? There are just so many and there are a real mixture of makes. I am concerned that there is so much that there is going to be a lot going to the metal recycle yard. It is a shame. Texas and now OK apparently have a lot of this going on. How can we preserve this instead of crushing and melting down? I am surprised the heirs do not see an opportunity here. There are a lot of grilles in good shape all the way back to the early 1900s. Oh man. But who knows how long it would take to recoup any investment?
Was this ever a salvage yard?
I think it was a salvage yard for a few years. The city wanted the owner to make some modifications and the owner closed up instead. While still owning the property, he continued to buy cars to add to the collection, but didn't sell anymore.
