How feasible is it to have the AC compressor repaired? The chances are pretty good that the compressor does not work and it is also probably difficult to find one that does at a sane cost.
We're having the entire AC system restored by Classic Auto Air down in FL for the '56 we're restoring. Total rebuild of the compressor, dryer, evaporator, condenser.....etc. is right around 1300 bucks, half of which is the compressor and clutch cost. They are converting everything to be ready for 134A, too.

Thank you Tim. I guess no one rebuilds the ones in newer cars because it is less expensive to buy a new compressor. But when the components are no longer made then the rebuild is still a viable option.
