A special tool is required for adjusting 55-6 (and possibly earlier) brake shoes. The tool is the Ammco 1750 or Miller C-3492. They are usually in the $300-400 range on ebay.
What have folks done to properly align their brake shoes ? Is there anyone that would be willing to loan out this tool ?
Ron
When I did my brakes on my '56, I don't recall ever using a "special" tool other than a regular brake spoon. I seem to remember using the spoon to adjust the front shoe until I heard a 'scrape'. Then, backed off just a few clicks. Then, I adjusted the rear shoe till I heard the scrape, and left that one alone, and went back and adjusted the front shoe again only the few clicks I backed off earlier. (Know what I mean?) They work great!

Ron, I think Mark Waite has the tool you are talking about. He might be able to help you out if you contact him.

Hi Les -
Do you have Mark's email address or contact info ?
Ron
Ron,
Click the "Resources" link to the left. Scroll down to the Model Year Coordinators. Mark is the Coordinator for the '52 model year and his contact info is listed. Good luck!
Mark
