For a very long time I had 2 hood nose moldings just laying around here at the shop; one I think was perhaps NOS, decent chrome, and never broken. The other was one that I had repaired and plated, but then didn't use. They just laid here on the shelf, so I sold both of them.

Today I received a hood nose to be repaired, but the two halves have been replated separately, and there is too much erosion of the material to expect a nice job of welding them back together, especially considering they need to be sent out and stripped of their chrome again.

So.... does anybody know of a '55-56 hood nose bezel that could be bought? This is for one of the club's newer members (see him listed in the Sept/Oct issue of new members) and has a '55 Coronado that I think the restoration is done on other than this issue.

As long as it has a clean break, I'm not too afraid of making a repair, but I need all the material there, and the fewer pits, the better of course.

Thanks,

Tim Bowers

Tim,

The last time I saw Don Holder's 55, which won best of class at the 2010 convention, his air scoop moulding was in two pieces. It appeared he had ground the broken edges making them symmetrical and plated and installed them leaving a uniform gap between the two. Although not original, it made a very neat installation.

The scoop on my 55 has been welded and replated and is now developing a hairline crack. Your post got me looking and I realized I have another repaired and plated scoop. If you are not successful in finding one of these elsewhere, let me know.

How many times can these be repaired?

Mac

Hey, Mac;

I wasn't going to drop any names, but I'm pretty sure you bought the repaired nose from me on one of my ebay auctions.

I'll keep your information close and come back your way if nothing else materializes.

Good question on the number of times repaired.

Tim

Tim...that new member called me last week since I am listed as the '55 Model Year Coordinator. In turn, I suggested he contact you for the scoop molding. Glad to see he has made contact with you.

He was looking for some other items that I thought I could help him locate. I asked him to e-mail me with his contact info but never heard from him again. Do you have his name and e-mail address? If you are not comfortable posting that information here, please e-mail me at: mark.kubancik@insightbb.com. Thanks!

Mark

Tim,

Feel free to give him my information as well. I am putting together a database of 55 Coronado's, and I would love to get the information on his car. I can't seem to locate the issue with his name/contact info right now, or i'd look him up. He can email me at sandstrom.jessica@yahoo.com.

Unfortunately I do not have a spare nose piece. Mine is cracked as well. Would Russ Frank have this piece? I always see his trim advertisement in the classified section. I also recall an ad from Gil Evangelisto about a parts car. Perhaps he is willing to sell you this piece?

Maybe I should run an ad offering specific services welding these things up!

It's not here yet, but John Fowlie out at BigM says he has one with a hairline crack in it with no pitting in the chrome, so I will buy that one with hopes that it is a good core.

I will pass your information along with my next correspondence, Jessica.

Thanks, Tim, I appreciate it. John is a great guy, and I hope that this core will work out for you.
