Saw this ad on Craigslist and requested photos as the ad made the car sound intriguing. Photos show a very nice car and subsequent correspondence with the seller reveal the owner was once an NDC member.
Here is the original ad from CL ( http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/4431718121.html )
1954 Desoto firedome convertible - $28000 (China maine)
1954 Desoto Firedome odometer: 30 automatic transmission title : clean
1954 Desoto Firedome convertible with just over 30k original miles. The only thing that isn't 100% original is the car was repainted with the original DuPont color spec paint due to poor storage by the original owner. We are the second family to own this car since new. The car runs and drives as new. It is currently in storage until the ground hardens up. Photos are available on request. Any questions please ask. That I know of currently there are only 4 of the original 1200 of this model still on the road. The car has a powerglide automatic transmission and the original hemi motor. I have a spare set of heads and a spare generator that goes with the car. Thanks for looking. Lee
This is additional information learned in my correspondence with Lee:
Hi I have a few exterior photos, the car is in storage for another week or so then I will have more pics. Thanks Lee 207-441-2584
Thanks Lee. Very nice looking car. If you don’t mind, I’m going to post your info and photos on the National DeSoto Club website message board. You may get lucky and find a buyer.
THANK YOU!! My grandfather when he was alive was a member. He and I have owned the car since 87. It was written up in the newspaper in a national column as well as it has been displayed by Hemings at their annual convention. I will send more photos hopefully next week. Lee (e-mail: tex_94@yahoo.com)
Really nice!
Wish I had a bigger garage...maybe I could keep it at Mark's house?
.
Hello all. I have reduced the asking price of the car to $24000. Thanks for looking. Lee
Would look good next to my 54 club when finished.
Ive saved some photos for future reference. Amazing car, good luck with the sale
Ben
EDIT: The photo of the gear lever indicator... yours says 'powerflite' under the gear selection. Mine doesn't - convertible only thing maybe?
1954 DeSoto Firedome 8 Club Coupe
Ben, not sure if it is a convertable only thing. All I know is that it is the way it was from the showroom floor. Sorry I am not much help. Lee
Mark, and the rest of the club. Thanks for the help posting my 54. It has been adopted to a new home over the pond in Sweden! There is a large mopar club that has purchased the car. I will be sad to see her go but atleast she is going to people like you folks that will truly appreciate her. Thanks again! Lee
Lee,
Wish I could have bought your car, but hope you have found it a good home! I've had the pleasure to visit Sweden several times in the past twenty years and visited with some of the old car folks over there. They are a passionate bunch about their old cars and from what I recall they drive their cars, often regardless of the weather.
