For all of us, who did not attend the 2015 Convention in Kalamazoo, MI., we need/want to know where the 2016 Convention will be, so I/we can start planning.
Thanks!!

Tim,
Do you recall the dates for the 2016 meet?
Mark
Mark, July 5th to the 10th.
Is there going to be a category for survivor cars (non restored originals) or will they be lumped in with the rest of the restored ones? If they are lumped in with the others how will they be judged?

Chris...AACA established a class for this type of vehicle several years ago. It's called HPOF which stands for Historical Preservation of Original Features. The HPOF judging team "evaluates" your car, they do not judge it. They ensure it is a true original, i.e., no full repaint, no redone interior, no non-original components, etc. It's one of the more popular classes both with car owners and attendees. Repeat show visits earn the vehicle a "preservation" award. Since we somewhat base our judging scores on the AACA format, perhaps the Club should think about a DeSoto HPOF class?
Mark
It would be nice to have a class like that because then people could see just how things were and how the cars have managed to "survive" as they were originally constructed.
Is this class a consideration for the club or just a thought?
Chris
I like the idea very much, and would be happy to act as a liaison between any interested member that might do the necessary research and the board.
From a very quick look at the club's handbook, I don't see any procedure for establishing a new class of cars at the annual convention. Perhaps someone more familiar with the handbook or past procedures (like establishing the Diamond-in-the-Rough) can speak up.

Apparently it can be done by board action. A few years ago Adventurers were put in a separate class and I think it was just a majority vote of the board. It didn't work out and only lasted a year or two.
If Bill Noble weighs in he would know.
We I hosted the 13th convention in valley Forge we the Colonial Chapter decided to create a new class for Prior Winners of all first place classes. We did not have to have approval from the NDC board members we just did it. This permited the previous class number 1 cars to be entered in this special class and they were not judged but were just for show only. This then permitted new owners to be judged and to get an award.
I had spoken to Bill Noble at this years show and had mentioned about an HPOF class for car owners that still have some original features on their cars. This class would not be judged but again would be available for the car owner to display his vehicle for other owners to see some of the original features that were still surviving all the years of ownership.
This year we had a 1937 Desoto sedan that was still an original car and also was voted Diamond in the Rough because of still original features such as upholstery and other items. I personally think we need to have this class and a group of judges could just look over the cars in the class and state that this is an HPOF vehicle. This has been proposed to Bill so someone on the Board needs to run with the idea for next year convention.
My 1939 Desoto has been awarded the HPOF badge from an AACA national event so this is where I would place my car but that is not the reason why we need this class. It helps take the owners that can not afford a full restoration but permits them to drive and have fun with their cars.

I've sent a motion to the board to begin discussing establishing an HPOF class for the NDC.

Tim: This is Rich HArtung. I know that the board will be talking about the HPOF class. I have sent the trustees and board members a copy of an HPOF proposed judging form. It is based on the AACA form but I added more items. Yes, I agree that we should have this spate class as a non judged class. The form that I sent would be used to indicate by the car owner what they feel is still original to their car and then based on how many items and or areas are still original then the would be awarded an HPOF award.
So we need the owners to to be honest but we also need to tailor the form to what the NDC wants in an HPOF class and not solely on the AACA's interpretation.
Please keep me posted on how the Board address this in the next Board packet that Bill Noble will be sending out.

Bill just this past weekend sent out the Board Packet that includes the motion to create an "HPOF-like" class for the NDC.
Bill requested responses to the board packet be sent to him in a couple of weeks, so the process is moving.
