Received this inquiry via e-mail from a fellow '55 owner. I'm not skilled to answer this question so those who have input are welcomed to submit their response.
Mark, I’m currently restoring a 55 Desoto Sportsman with about 81k original miles. I have a Torqueflite transmission from a 67 Chrysler and would like to use it to replace the two-speed Powerflite that’s currently in the car. Can this be done and if so what modifications would be needed. For one the shifter would need to be changed.

Of course anything is possible, but this is not an easy swap. The newer transmission uses a flex plate while the '55 has the TC bolted directly to the crank. This swap adds another gear but the top ratio is still 1:1 so the advantage is really minimal and not worth the hassle.

The 1957 to 1961 Three Speed Automatic used by all Chrysler Division's
will bolt to his 1955 Bell Housing and it has The Emerg Brake.
Where is he located at - just maybe some one in his area has one.

If the 1967 Automatic has The LA-318 sized Bell Housing it can be used
with the information supplied in the link from the other reply post.
But no Emerg Brake with the 1967 transmission and the 1967 Shift Assembly
does not match The Car.
They must also go to WalMart to purchase any Automatic Transmission Cooler.
