Anyone have a clue on how I can find the patterns or original colors of interior and carpeting? I could not find the number on the firewall. Where is that number located? Even if I find the number ,what do I do with it? Thanks for any info you can provide! Ed

Thanks Rodger I checked with 1955 specialist for the club. Took some notes but I recall that both experts were unfamiliar with how to secure patterns or locate the color of the carpeting. Unless new information has come to light in the last year or so?

Ed,

Your car should have a data plate mounted on the firewall to the right of the brake master cylinder. The paint code should be 316 for your Lexington Green color. There should be a trim code under Trim. The recommended trim code for your color was code 451 which was a green cloth and vinyl. If I am not mistaken, the Firedome model came with a rubber mat in the front and a rayon carpet with no rubber backing in the rear. I would think both would be black.

A vendor such as SMS may be able to provide fabric to match your trim code. You may want to ask the club librarian, Barrett Taft, if he has an upholstery book for the 55 models and scan the page with your trim code on it and send to you.

Ed,

As the '55 model year coordinator, I would be glad to assist you. As Mac suggests, we will need your three digit trim code to verify what upholstery and trim your car should have. We can also verify the front mat and rear color carpet color. I have a '55 color and upholstery book and can color copy the correct pages for you once you give us the trim code.

If you want to talk with me directly, my number is listed to the left under "Resources". Or, you can e-mail me at mark.kubancik@insightbb.com.

Thanks to all!! I will look again for trim code. Was the code embossed into the firewall or was it engraved on a metal tag that was riveted to the firewall? Someone mentioned a tag if so I fear mine was removed or rusted off. The car was painted so maybe the painter covered the plate. Thanks again for the helpful advice. And Mark I think you did mention this info to me a year ago and like an idiot I lost the notes from our conversation.

Ed,

Your trim code as well as the other codes for your car's options were embossed on a metal data plate which was rivited on to the firewall. This plate was painted over when the firewall was painted with the body color. The embossing can still be read even though painted over. These plates were meant to be permanent but it is possible yours could have been chisseled off. This is a plate for a 55 Fireflite with the paint removed.
