Looking at photos from this year's Chryslers at Carlisle (All Chrysler Nationals), I saw this photo of a 55 Desoto Fireflite 4dr in unusual colors. This could be the Light Taffy/Copper Rose (paint code 440) that was available as a spring special. Or it could be a custom paint job. Can any of the 55 Desoto experts on the board confirm or deny this ?

Ron

Ron,

That could be the special Spring color combo as you describe. That could, however, also be the color emberglow which was more peach than pink. There was no color of pink offered in 1955 until the special spring colors were announced. One sure way to tell is check out the data plate or to view the interior. The spring special combo had unique interior colors including on the dash and interior posts, etc.

Here are more photos of the car. Note: I was not there. These were taken and shared by someone that was there...

Great news. Sounds like we found a rare bird. The primary color on this one seems to be more orangey than emberglow.

I'm trying to find out the name of the owner, who lives in MA. Not too far away from me.

Ron & Mark,

That is my car. I have owned it for about eight years and always thought the main color was emberglow. I believe I got that from the data plate, or maybe from some paperwork I have. I'll take another look. I have been told by others that it is unusual for the accent color not to be white. By the way, the pictures make the car look better than it really is.
Any information you experts might have regarding colors would be appreciated.

Ron, you mentioned we might not be far from each other. I live in northeast MA, at the NH border. Where are you located?

Hi Dean -

I'm in central CT...less than two hours from you. It would be neat to see your car !

There is a data plate on your firewall, near the master cylinder. Can you check the paint code for your car ? It's a three digit number under the word Paint or PNT. The spring special would be code 440.

Can you tell if the car has original paint or if it's been repainted ?

Hi Ron, Mark,

Ron, we should set up a day to meet halfway, maybe near Worcester, MA

I don't want to belabor the color thing, but the paint code is 440 on the data plate.
Directly under where it says 440, there is the number 2. What would that indicate?
Almost all of the copper color is original paint (it has some touch ups), it might be faded a bit. The roof has been repainted, not sure about the sweeps. All of that was done before I bought the car.

Thanks for the help and interest,
Dean
