If the car was a power steering car, I'd be interested in the steering wheel and horn ring
It's supposed to be fun!
1949 De Soto Custom Convertible (project)
Tim,
It was a powersteering car, send me a pm and I'll give you my phone number to discuss further.
WE HAD OUR DESOTO PAINTED AND THE PAINTER TOOK OUT THE WINDOWS. WE REPLACED THE WINDOW SEAL ON FRONT AND REAR WINDOW BY ORDERING 1955 SEAL. THE SEAL WAS PUT IN WITH THE WINDOWS BUT THE SEAL WAS WRONG. THE CHROME COULD NOT BE MOUNTED . DO YOU HAVE AN OUTLET OR RECOMMENDATION ON WINDOW SEAL FRONT WINDOW AND BACK WINDOW. WE HAVE TALKED TO LOCAL GLASS PEOPLE AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY HELP. WE HAVE NICE CHROME TO PUT BACK AROUND BOTH WINDOWS BUT NEED TO REPLACE THE SEAL AGAIN TO A DIFFERENT TYPE SEAL. STEVEN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD IS BEING INSTALLED NOW.

Price on 291 HEMI has been dropped to 400.00. This includes the motor (complete carb to pan), transmission, cross member, and an extra set of exhaust manifolds. The motor is locked up. So far we have taken the wire covers off, removed the spark plugs, and poured penetrating oil in each of the cylinders. This is as far as we are going to go. We did drain oil from the oil pan.

It is really too bad to see that the only '55 Fireflite wagon ever made was cut up for parts. We must do better as a club to save these one-of-a-kind DeSotos.
Have a nice day
Steve
Steve, are you sure - they built only one? I wonder how it ended up with someone that is parting it out? Nobody knew what they had? Are the FireFlite parts - station wagon at that - useable for other cars?
Steve,
Good one; you had me going there for a few minutes. Then I remembered your sense of humor! And it's sixty days before April 1!!
Paul...all wagons in '55 were Firedomes. If you look closely at the photos of the front fender you will see Firedome script.
Sorry about the typo, I guess I have FireFlites on the brain since I also own a 1960 FireFlite. The parts are from a 55 FireDome wagon. Thanks for drawing my attention to this.
Good one Steve M.
The '56 door handles are different than the '55. I have handles on the parts car we just retrieved that I can sell once I know they are working.
Do you just need the push button mechanism, or the whole shebang including the cable, etc. I have an extra push button mechanism, but the cable was cut. No buttons, but I have a rechromed bezel somewhere.
I have a round fan shroud, but it has had some cutting done on it due to aftermarket a/c being installed. A sheetmetal man could fix it up, though.
You mention the push-button mechanism, but then you mention a 3 speed trans. Do you have the 2 speed powerflite automatic, or a 3 speed manual column shift?
The kickdown mechanism on the 2 speed automatic is a linkage from the bell crank mounted on the firewall, not cable. Do you need brackets, linkages, etc for the 2 barrel, or 4?
It's supposed to be fun!
