Is there anyone out there who is rebuilding the engine in a 1955-1957 DeSoto V-8? I'd like to get a photo of the oil filter adaptor boss on the engine block. One photo from each year if that is possible. I am trying to verify that the Warren Avenue plant kept machining the O-Ring bosses on those engines. Here is a photo of that boss from my 1952 for reference. Thanks!

I didn't know if you meant the engine block OR the part that the oil canister mounts too. But... I DID find these TWO pictures of my 1956 341 (Adventurer) engine. I hope these help you out. I do NOT see any "groove" for an O-Ring. The first picture shows it better.

Thanks Jim!

You have answered my question. It looks like the bleed hole and the O-ring grooves were deleted. Shucks. There is still an aftermarket solution for you to use a spin-on full-flow filter. Check this page:

I'm not advertising that, and I have never tried it. That is only one of several adaptors made.

You might lose points in a seriously judged show with that, although if you intend to drive the car, your engine would appreciate it.

Jim's photo shows that the 1956 raised deck block had the O-ring grooves and the bleed hole removed. I think we can safely say the 1957 engine would look the same.

I am still curious about the 1955 engine. That should have used the carryover block from the 1954. Any one out there with a 1955 block photo that shows the filter mounting boss on the right rear of the block? Thanks!
